The focus of the White Horse Soapbox Derby and STEM Fair is ‘Historical Engineering’. This can range anywhere from Viking Ships to the Pyramids. As long as it’s Historical Engineering, it works! The course is extremely steep, so five obstacles will be set up to increase the technical difficulty of the course. Some tough stipulations will be in place to ensure each team's safety. The Soapboxes will be stringently tested before the competition.
The best kart will receive the much revered Best Design Award.
This is a community event for all ages.
None of the waste from the event goes to landfill. Westbury and the surrounding area is beautiful and we want to keep it that way.Our event sponsor MJ Church will clear the site before, during and after the event, leaving it better than we found it. Please help us by keeping your litter to the bins provided. Single use plastics are banned for all traders. Shuttle services will be provided to the public and carpooling to the park and ride hubs is encouraged.
The event is primarily a soapbox race and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) engineering fair. However there is something for everyone including a live music stage, STEM area, food court, licenced bar, kites, face painting and Red Devil display.
Our event partner Landmarc are kindly providing 40 portaloos from their stores on Salisbury Plain.
Baby changing will be with the toilets.
The event is placed on the iconic Westbury White Horse site, with a large event field. The site of the White Horse Soapbox is on an Iron age Hill Fort, an early example of Historical Engineering. The ridged defences would have protected the round houses, granaries and stores of inhabitants 2,000 years ago.
