James Dyson Foundation Joins White Horse Soapbox as STEM Provider

The White Horse Soapbox, the premier engineering event in the heart of Wiltshire, is proud to announce the James Dyson Foundation as the official STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) provider for this year’s event. Celebrating innovation and creativity, the foundation will host an engaging STEM marquee, designed to inspire participants of all ages with hands-on activities and educational displays.

This follows in the footsteps of the continued STEM work of Arke LTD, White Horse CAD and Honeystone Web Development in partnership with the event.

The White Horse Soapbox is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of ingenuity. Teams design, build, and race gravity-powered soapbox vehicles down the Westbury White Horse, showcasing their engineering prowess. In 2025, STEM engineering in Wiltshire takes centre stage on May 17th, thanks to the collaboration between the James Dyson Foundation and Westbury Town Council.

The James Dyson Foundation’s STEM marquee promises a dynamic experience for all attendees. Featuring interactive stations, the marquee will encourage visitors to explore engineering concepts through fun and practical activities. From prototype building to problem-solving challenges, the marquee aims to spark curiosity and inspire the next generation of innovators.

Arke Ltd, known for their pioneering ‘Windmill in a Cup’ STEM project, has worked closely with event organisers to embed educational workshops into the event since 2022. They’ve partnered with White Horse CAD, a local engineering consultancy, to design workshops that highlight the principles of aerodynamics and structural integrity used in design. Together, they’ve ensured that the White Horse Soapbox isn’t just about competition but also about learning and growth.

Honeystone Web Design has contributed to the STEM focus by developing an interactive online platform for the event. Their website includes educational resources, real-time race updates, race information and an interactive engineering community. This digital hub complements the actual event, extending the event’s reach and making STEM engineering in Wiltshire accessible to a wider audience.

“We’re thrilled to have the James Dyson Foundation on board,” said Ryan Child, event manager at Westbury Town Council. “Their commitment to STEM education aligns perfectly with our mission to inspire creativity and innovation in the community.”

The White Horse Soapbox is a day long festival of soapbox racing, great music, food and STEM activities on one of the most iconic hills in the south of England. See you all May 17th, 2025.
